Project / Lab Redo

As part as the remaining days of the quarter I allow my students to redo one major project or lab. You can choose any project or lab in order to do a redo of that project. You may submit the redone file by the last day of the quarter. I will then replace your previous grade with the new grade.

Rescheduled Final

As mentioned last class our current final schedule is set for March 19th at 6pm. If students would like to change the time for an EARLIER time then we if and only if ALL 26 students agree on a new time. This is the department rule that all students must agree to the new date and time.

Final Project

Des 16 Final Project: Legacy Exhibit Poster
Assigned: March 3rd
Due: March 19th 6pm

Combine Typography and Imagery using Photoshop and Illustrator

Project Description:

Create a poster for a museum, performing arts/appropriate venue featuring a leader in the arts or sciences who is no longer living. The poster should reflect the legacy of the life’s work of the subject as a retrospective exhibit in a museum of art, history or science or a presentation of their work & legacy. It may be a national, international or smaller exhibition or performance space. Use color in the poster.

The imagery in the poster will be assembled in Photoshop with a minimum of three images, one of which must be of the subject. Blend or combine the images, don’t just place block images.

The final composition will be assembled in Illustrator and all text must be created in Illustrator. Typeface choices must be from our design standard type listing. Demonstrate refined typography skills with effective typeface selection, size, style/weight, color, kerning, leading, letter spacing and vertical spacing. Your design choices should support the theme and demonstrate clear visual hierarchy and use of grid alignments.

Answer the questions “Who? What? Where? When?” for the exhibit, presentation or lecture. The poster should reflect the nature of the subject and appeal to the target audience of those who do/do not know about the person featured. Demonstrate your knowledge of gestalt principles and the grid and use them to unify all poster elements.

Research:

You must know about your subject and event in order to design an effective poster. Utilize research and the design process.

Technical Requirements:

Print and mount your poster vertically or horizontally as a trimmed 16
x 20 inch print mounted on a black 20 x 24 inch matte board (approximately). Good craft is an important part of the finished project.

Submission Requirements:
  • Mounted Poster

  • A PDF (smallest size) of your poster, your final AI file, and a flattened jpeg file in drop-off folder.
  • Scanned copy of your poster sketches

Final Project Sketches
Assigned: March 3rd
Due: March 8th

Students will research the person of the sciences that they have chosen. They will use the knowledge to come up with FIVE rough sketches for the Legacy Exhibit Poster. Students will present these sketches in a group critique with other students as well as with me for one-on-one meetings.
